9800pro would smoke it..full 8 pixel pipelines compared to the 4 on the xt..even though its got higher clockspeeds it would get smoked

even the outdated 9500pro would probably beat the 9600xt..as the 9500pro is a full 8 pixel pipes too..

9800 Pro all the way. Think of it this way , which would you rather have a Pentium 2 with 4MB Cache or a P4 with 512K . I know its not the best example , but its fitting to this question. Get the 9800 Pro an you will happy

actually the 9500pro and 9600xt are about the same. one is higher in oen thing the other in another.

Get the 9800pro though. it is FAR faster. almost double!

Spending the extra on the 256mb is worth it. With the newer games and stuff the extra 256 really makes them fly ahead of the rest.

9800Pro. The extra memory on old gen cards isn't going to do much at all.

If I were to buy a last gen card RIGHT NOW, I would get the 9800Pro 256MB version. Not for the memory, but for what the card actually is. Its a 9800XT card that comes with a Pro bios.. It has the same PCB, same memory, same GPU as the 9800XT. All you need to do is flash it with a XT image and you've got a 9800XT for $200/100 cheaper.

I've got a 9800Pro 128MB version flashed to XT bios and speeds, but it has a Pro PCB so I don't have the temp or OD in CCC. I personally don't need the OD feature.

Do not get a 256 mb 9800 pro, with the money spent on it go for a 6800nu IMO. But a 128 9800 pro is extremely good for the price, runs hl2 and everything nicely.

From some of the reviews I've seen the extra 128MB of memory doesn't really outperform those with 128MB and a 256bit mem. bus.

But that is not to say that it will not change in the future.

If you only have 512MB of sys ram it might be more prudent to get the 9800Pro128/256 and another 512MB of sys ram. If you have 1G but a slower processor the 'extra' $200 might be better spent on a faster processor.

9800pro 128mb is the way to go. If you can afford $280, get a 6800nu 128mb. With a Leadtech 6800nu 128mb overclock, I was able to play Doom3 on High at 1280*1024 fine, even though High recommends 256mbs. Plus you can find some real nice game bundles with the 6800 cards.

Right.
So all those benchmark test from Far Cry and VST show that the 9800Pro 256 performs better than the regular 9800Pro, and espically when you enable AA/AF, are wrong.

Having 256mb on a 5700 or 9600 is worthless, but it's not when you have a 9800Pro and especially if you want to crank up the AA/AF
