I'm interested in buying a bare bone kit that includes a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+.

I would like to know what is the fastest GPU I can stick in there before I see a bottle neck.

nice, so it will fit on this motherboard with no problem Sir?

MSI K9N6PGM2-V Motherboard
The MSI K9N6PGM2-V offers superior performance for AMD Socket AM2+, AM2 Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2, and Sempron processors with 2000/1600 MT/s FSB. Based on the NVIDIA GeForce 6100/nForce 430 chipsets, the K9N6PGM2-V supports 4GB DDR2 800/667/533 Non-ECC, un-buffered, dual-channel memory.

- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce 6100/nForce 430
- Front Side Bus: 1000MHz (2000 MT/s)
- Processor Interface: Socket AM2/AM2+

Also, the case is a microATX case, I don't know if a 280 will fit in there...

ok so its a choice between a 280 OR the 4850, any other GPUs?

unless you plan on overclocking that 5000 X2 cpu then theres not much point than even a 4850. I had a 5000 X2 and can tell you that anything beyond a 8800gt will not really improve your gaming experience especially when it comes to minimum framerates. hell no matter what card I used in it the minimums were no better than the 8600gt that I had in it. thats why I ended up just building my own with a good core 2 cpu.

I had a X2 5200+ paired with an 8800 GTX. It did pretty well most of the time, but definitely bottlenecked the card. 9800 GT or HD 4830 is about all a person would need with a X2 5000+.

may i suggest that you dump the 5000 X2 all togather and get a intel man.. Best thing i ever done.. you can find you a nice dual core or a really cheap quad core Q6600. I'd get the Q6600 because they are getting ready to stop production on them and the price's are dropping to $130 Brand new. This CPU is the people's champ and will overclock like crazy with no problems.. Not to mention it will absolutly KILL that AMD CPU or anything AMD currently has out when you OC it

I think the OP could benefit more from a little more research all together. He's wondering what would fit in a microatx board which regardless of the board's size, houses pcie slots and that IS what matters for starters. What version is secondary.

As for the cpu, there's no reason not to go intel with such lowend intel cpu's stomping even the highest end amd processors on the market.

What size monitorr do you have? Also, why that barebone kit? Isn't there anything faster that you can select from?

Eek! Hehe..I know that sounds like a good deal but, a deal like that is normally limited. Limited because the PSU is not that good and reliable and capable to power a high end video card. The mobo isn't all that great to O/C a cpu. Also, that X2 5000+ is pretty slow in comparison to an E5200 Intel dual core cpu. That X2 5000+ is about equal to an Intel Core 2 E2200(2.2ghz) cpu.

I HAVE NO IDEA why you are even CONSIDERING a GTX 280 for around $400 when you are about to purchase that crappy barebone system for less than half the price. People like Mega666 need to go away....

Spread the money out putting that into the cpu/motherboard/memory/quality PSU.

Intel Build E8400, 4GB memory, Asus/Gigabyte P45 motherboard, case, psu quality brand ( Cheap antec earthwatts would be fine, otherwise corsair is nice too ), HD4850 512mb or GTX 260/HD4870.

It'll cost the same if not less than getting the slow AMD barebone and wasting a GTX 280.

yes a well balanced system will always deliver the best gaming experience.

Don't buy it dude! Hehe not worth it. Yeah it's cheap but, it does not leave headroom for upgrading. Best to whip up a decent Intel Core build paired with a 9800GT or HD 4850 video card for your 22" This will be more of a balanced solid build.

I would suggest a HD4830 or 9800GT for ~$100.

A HD4850 or 9800GTX+ works too (~$150).

Yeah, even if he's set on AMD you can put together your own "barebones" with quality parts and an X2 6000+ Brisbane for about $285 (Lian Li case, Antec PS, Crucial RAM, ASUS or GIgabyte mobo). I did a fast check of Newegg. An Intel would run just a bit more.
