Video card to be coupled with an e8400 (still working on the final OC)

I think it would be an inferior choice to get almost any G92 card at this point.

I voted HD4850. I have a friend who's computer came with a onboard chip, I just suggested he get a 4850 for.
I need to go check out the PSU that came with it first though.
I suggested this one.
Newegg has some listed for $20 more and some have a free game included.

I have voted for the 4850 since the list does not include any Matrox video cards...

I'm still not upgrading my 2.5-3 year old rig, but I just replaced my 7800GT with a cheap 3850, and if I *were* upgrading my rig (4850 may be limited by my X2 4400+ Toledo CPU) I'd be getting a 4850.

In fact, my friend just bought a 4850 to upgrade his 7800GT based on his own independent search for reviews. The 8800GTS OC is a nice card in it's own right. I know the 4850 beats the 8800 GTX in many (if not all) newer games; the 8800GTS OC being stronger than the GTX variant may make up the difference and overtake the 4850, but the 4850 may still grow a bit with driver revisions; whereas the 8800 series has had a long time for it's drivers to become fully mature.

I've heard many complain about the heat issues with the 4850 using stock coolers (no firsthand experience) but if it's a concern, then the MSI version on newegg with a big cooler and rebate may be preferred.

edit: GTX beats GTS OC, ignore above where I said otherwise

The GTS beats the GTX??

Anyways, I vote for the 4850 hands down.

Definitely the 4850. It beats the 9800GTX in most cases, so it'll definitely surpass the GTS 512MB.

Videocard companies do need better nomenclature. Better yet, some sort of guide to their cards' heirarchy. What exactly is better about each card than others... etc. My 8800 GTS 512 whooped on my buddy's 8800 GTS 640, for example. Why? Less memory... but a better architecture. What's the common layperson going to choose?

4850, with a MB and PSU which can handle CF. You know they'll be $125 by end of year and you'll want to pop your second.
