el_lance_o said:k either get a 6800 ultra or a x800 xt, it doesn't matter, their both crazy good. Oh yeah and get the silencer with it though. Flip a coin for the card, then for the brand, even though I think gainward or sapphire would be one of the beter ones
saturnine2 said:BFG 6800Ultra or GT. Hands down, they perform very well, and NVidia's linux support is the best in the industry.
Ok then, their Windows drivers are better, dual monitor support is better, they outperform ATI cards in the Doom3 engine (which will be used in a LOT of upcoming games), and they use a totally new gpu, unlike ATI's rehash of the 9*00 gpu. Enough reasons?Tigerblade said:*Yawn*.....not everyone uses linux......get a new reason.

Tigerblade said:Lets add, only really have 'decent' drivers for popular games, an SM3.0 card that won't be fast enough to actual play a fully coded SM3.0 game......
rancor said:Why do people like you talk about stuff you don't know, I'm working with things like that, and these cards are fine to run the next gen games with everything on max.
Tigerblade said:But you don't disagree with the rest.........i rest my case.
rancor said:I don't disagree with the rest, .
Tigerblade said:Double negative means a positive....so u agreeta for your support man

rancor said:lol sorry, yeah but whats left, same performance in dx, better overall drivers not by much though, still have improvements in the drivers that can be made for the nV cards, better ogl performance, which ATi can't fix on thier cards, more feature support.
Tigerblade said:Debateable about same performance in Dx........
Tigerblade said:*Yawn*.....not everyone uses linux......get a new reason.
and @ DirtyApe.....I think if u get a Pro VIVO its pretty much 100% success rate. I've done 4 now for friends, all running at x800 XT PE, 520core 560 memory, no problems.
rancor said:I don't disagree with the rest, because both cards are equal in performance, other then in Ogl, and ATi has no fix for that and can't make a fix.
MFZ said:No they're not, show us proof where they are equal in DX. Or are you making things up? I can point to several reviews that clearly show the XT's ahead of the 6800s in DX games.
rancor said:Show me that ATi leads at 1600x1200 with no aa and afhave not seen a single benchmark where the games are very close in Dx
MFZ said:Who the hell cares about no AA/AF? Just you rancor...making stuff up again as usual. BTW we'll talk again in 1 yr when my XT PE is in "the grave".
rancor said:Would be nice if people can actaully buy one isn't it.
We are talking about "Dx" performance in Dx games, well no need to throw in driver optimizations which have nothing to do with Dx in there is there?
MFZ said:I just bought an XT PE today. Now you're grasping at straws, dx performance in dx games but ignore the obvious AA/AF that everyone is going to use? What kind of vulcan logic is that?
Its the same performance tiger people who think aa and af performance has anything to do with dx or ogl are totally blind.
rancor said:Its very logical, if you don't understand then you haven't looked into enough yet.
AA and AF opts are something nV can increase performance in I'm not ingoring that, which I stated early
MFZ said:LOL I see so all these sites that have reviews should discard their AA/AF scores because rancor says they have optimizations and therefore are not valid. Also, people buying these cards should completely ignore AA/AF and wait in hopes that someday nVidia will catch up. Ok we get it rancor, you make perfect sense.

Interesting its still very close I think this was an article where they turned off nV's opts too
With older drivers as well. And there wasn't much of a change from 4.6 to 4.8 anyhow for ATi, but from nV there was alot from 61.34 to 66 series now. Also there has been a big change in nV's opts for aa and af too.
The Batman said:AA/AF are API independant, you can't turn to either as support for a blanket "this card is better with this API" statement. You want to make that kind of a statement you run those benchs in pure mode. It's like with a scientific experiment, you can't have 2 variables, and AA/AF are the second variable. Obviously, as a consumer we don't care about any of this, end of the day performence is what sings to us. But we're discussing theoretics here, so either play by the rules or go home titto.
So no, ATI ISN'T better in DX, it's better in AA/AF. Are you following the logic there?
