What would be the best choice for my system? I need to replace my defective Radeon 9700 and i can't make the decision between a Radeon 9800 pro and a Geforce 6800. :confused:

The Geforce 6800 seems to me a good choice, especially for playing at 1280 x 1024. But i'm not sure if the Geforce 6800 will be considerably faster on my old system than the Radeon 9800. The other thing is, that i loved the video quality and acceleration of my Radeon 9700 (divx), but there is some information that the vpu of the Geforce 6800 is defective. I watch tv/films on my pc.

My system:
Pentium (Northwood) 2,53@2,85 ghz
1024 MB DDR 333 RAM
Asus P4PE

The IQ of 6800 is just as good as your old 9700pro.
I'd go 6800. It has the newer shaders, more pipes, etc. All round better card than a 9800pro in any category.
 
As I think of this...upgrading:

1st upgrade Video Card
2nd upgrade CPU
3rd upgrade RAM

In your case the Northwood is an outdated chip for gaming, DDR333 is a tad bit too slow.

I would make a new system. But the 6800 will make a considerable difference on your computer even if you did have a 9800PRO.
 
Well, i don't have any experience with Nvidia cards. Is the video quality (2D/films) just as good as on ATI cards? In this case i would go for the geforce 6800.
 
You won't be sorry with the 6800NU, although I would get a GT just because of 256MB DDR3 and higher clocks.
 
The GT would be nice, but I think it's not worth for my old system - probably there won't be any speed difference. I also fear, that when i later upgrade, PCI-e will be standard and i have to buy a new video card anyway...
