feel like buying a vid card today. looks like its btwn the 7950gt and the ati 1900xt 256. i have c2d, p5wdh. definitely will go to sli or cf in a month or 2. not worried about dx10. will buy new cards when needed. iq not a deal breaker either, as my eyesight isnt that great. i am using 21" trinitron. noise, heat not important either, as i use headphones, and the side of my case is off, also the vantec helicopter engine on my xp90 would cover it anyway. fps is what counts. i play oblivion, f.e.a.r., usual stuff. not interested in 7950gx2. also dont want to upgrade my psu. i like this one. been gaming at 1920x1440 or 2048x1536. wont spend more than $320.

heres a 7950 gt for around $275, but i would prob go with the evga for slightly higher clocks and warranty.

is crossfire still glitchy?

One of those second two cards you listed is a crossfire card, that is why the cooler is different, and the fact that the other HIS uses the Iceq3 or whatever. As far as crossfire being glitchy, I wouldn't go that far, but as easily configured and equal performance to SLI, probably not.

The GX2 would indeed be better than the cards you are aiming at. But since that's not your cup of tea right now, I say get a X1900 XT 512 MB or 7950 GT. At the resolutions you want to play, the 512 MBs of video RAM should make a difference.
The 7950 GT is cheaper, HDCP ready and if you buy XFX model, it's completely silent (passive cooling). But consider the 512 MBs model of the X1900 XT, which should be found for a bit more than $300, but it's an excellent card aswell.

well something new has been added. wtf is a 7900gto? not the one that asus and a couple others have been selling for a while which are just low clocked 7900gt with 512mb ram, but the product that is supposed to release at the end of sept(now?) and replace the 7900gtx. 650/1400 and priced lower than the 7950gt? why would nvidia shoot itself in the foot?

I would go with the X1900XT with 512 since it is a pretty good card and beats out the nvidia competition in stock speeds. But if your gona go SLI or CF later on I would go with nvidia since their SLI is better than CF.

Or you can go with a 7900 GTO 512MB (just released) for $250 which can probably be run as a 7900 GTX which goes for around $400.

i bought the gt, but only because i will be getting another soon. and i didnt particularly like what i was reading about the 1900xt(or any ati) in cf, re drivers, etc. but i dont understand why nvidia will be releasing the 7900gto 650/1320 512mb a couple weeks after the gt, 550/1400 512mb for $70 less msrp? its not on sale anywhere, i had to buy a card immediately or i would have waited. i have heard its only oem, or its not going to be sold in us but its listed on the evga site as of today. nice hsf too. according to evga, the gt has 4 plus gb\s more bandwidth, and draws 50 watts less power, but i cant find any other difference. no mention of hdmi for either.

2 of these (gto) would have much faster core and mem, and be cheaper than a gx2. and prob not have the trouble the gx2 has running on some mainboards. wtf?
