I'm willing to buy ATI radeon x800 pro which is available in two version AGP(4x & 8x) and PCIe.
I know that PCIe have more advantage over AGP, but what kind of performance or quality will I get in playing games,
Is there any performance or quality difference if I use the same card radeon x800pro in PCIe version or AGP ?

Get whatever is cheaper. They are about the same... your eyes won't be able to tell.... if you have a pcie mobo, then get the pcie...

yea there is really no difference...get what suits your needs better...

if you are going to buy a mobo, might as well get a PCI-e...the next videocard you buy after this probably will have to be PCI-e...

You'd have to be a fool to choose AGP when building a new computer and have a choice between the two.

Agreed.

As long as the motherboard you have supports PCI-e, then go with it. It is certainly the choice these days, and it is where the market is heading. On the other hand, if your system has an AGP slot, then you will need to buy the AGP version, or have a major system upgrade.

If your building a new rig there is no reason why you should go with AGP, PCI-E is the way to go for building a new rig, new graphic card which is being released by both ATI and Nvidia are all PCI-E, if you were to get a AGP system it would be very hard and expensive to replace the graphic card.

Well, thanks guys

I have currently mobo with AGP 4X only, since there is no difference I'm gona to buy AGP version of radeon X800pro, I want the cheapest one without any software or games bundles because they make the price higher for the card.

which product partners for X800pro chipest are the cheapest? :)

Whoever was saying that it provides no more perforamnce up at the top is partialy correct. Since the X800 doesnt use the full bandwidth of the PCI-E slot it doesnt help. But if your building a rig now it would be foolish to use old technology when the new stuff costs just as much and you can upgrade easily in the future.

true, but the x800pro AGP vivo version has unlockable pipes, whereas the pci-express version does not.

THERE IS NO PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AGP & PCIe cards of the same model/chipset, PERIOD.

Now granted if you were building a new system the obvious choice is to pick the newer technology b/c new videocards will at some point stop being made for AGP. So PCIe is the way of the future, plus the possibility of things like Crossfire/SLI. (like there might not be any more HIGH END agp cards.)

But if you have an AGP mobo, and don't want to buy a new mobo. DUR, get an AGP card. Its your only choice.

You may want to try looking at the x800xl instead of the x800pro -- the pro has a higher default clock speed, but you could easily increase that on an xl. More importantly, the 800xl has 16 pixel pipelines enabled by default, where the pro only has 12, also, the memory on the 800xl is clocked higher by default.

The price difference between an AGP x800pro and AGP x800xl is about $20, so that extra 20 could be very much worth it.

since your going AGP you might want to check out the x800pro vivo cards which unlock to 16 pipes and x800xt / xtpe speeds. This will cost you ~$240

But if you dont want to mess with flashing, you could spend more and go for the x800xl, but that will run you closer to ~$270

Okay, bottom line is.... Your motherboard is maxed at AGP 4X...

Time to upgrade. It's pointless to use the latest agp 8x cards and put it in there... It will still work well, but why not just upgrade your mobo? If you can't afford the whole PCI-E crossover... I would think you would need new CPU too.

So your choices really should be, whether you want to upgrade your mobo to support a true agp 8x or go all the way to pcie...

If I were you, it would be smarter to go ahead and make the pcie move now, that way its over and done with...
