My current specs aren't the greatest right now, and I'm a gamer.

Right now I have an HP computer, which explains a few things.

2.53ghz p4
512 PC2100
HP'ed MSI 845 mobo
9800pro(418/802)
And a zalman.

Now I can get $500 if I sell off a few things, and I don't know which to do.

I can either buy a x800 XT and sell my 9800, or I can buy the following:
$211 3000+ A64
$92 Aopen AK86-L
$150 Somekindafas t512mb RAM

Which will I get a better performance boost out of?
 
Most Likely the second option, but I have no experience with the x800 XT so...

Oh and the faster Ram would help quite a bit too.

Or if you could, get some faster ram AND an x800 XT.
 
The faster ram wouldn't make a difference, I couldn't do anything with it.
 
Ah, Misread that you have an HP. Well then I guess get the new proc and such. That way you have a good, strong system with the 9800.
 
i would get the new mobo option, as the 9800 isnt going anywhere, and while it may not be on the very top of the pile, its still pretty fucking close, so stick with it. mine runs far cry at 1280x 1024 @ 32 with settings maxed very nicely. no slide shows at all
 
upgrade the chip/mb/mem

in other words, upgrade everything HP and you will be good.

The video card is definately not the bottleneck in your system so I wouldn't worry about upgrading that just yet.

All the above suggestions have been pretty good. Stick with that 9800Pro,it's a very good card.
I'd suggest you get an AXP Mobile 2600+, 512MB of fast DDR and a good NF2-Ultra motherboard, like the Shuttle AN35Ultra. OC that up like crazy, assuming that you get a good price for that 2.53.
Or you might want to keep that 2.53, get a new 865PE motherboard and some good DDR. You might get 2.7-2.8Ghz out of that 2.53.
