With the system in the sig below, what upgrade for christmass would you guys feel to be better?
1. abit kv8 w/ antec case $173
2. corsaire pc3200 memory $225
And I don't have the regular windows operating system, I have the recovery cd's from hp, so I don't know if a system recovery is good. I'm just looking wihch of the two upgrades give better perfermance

I'm not sure of the chipset used, but I'm betting that going to PC3200 (I assume you're yanking the PC2700) would make a nice performance boost by allowing you to run the FSB:Mem ratio 1:1, instead of 4:3). If you want to overclock, going with the Abit would allow that, but then you're stuck with the PC2700, which would defeat the whole purpose of getting the motherboard in the first place---well for the most part.

I'd really say do both, but between the two, you'll probably get a better bang for your buck going to the PC3200 over the PC2700.

Dont know a whole lot about motherboards, but won't my motherboard like bottleneck everything? mine is an nforce 3 150 single chipset. So buying the pc3200 ram would give me mor fps in games than a new mb?

I agree with Master [H]. There is no point in buying a new mobo if you are stuck with the RAM you have now as you will not be able to overclock. I would try to get both. Sell the RAM and mobo you have now and you should be able to get some nice RAM and a new mobo.

The HP recovery CD is unlikely to work on a non-HP computer. You'll probably need a new copy of Windows if you change mobos.

thanks for the help guys, I guess i'l be getting some pc3200 for christmas. But it doesn't seem that newegg is selling those 225 dollar 1gb rams I looked at a month before, guess it's gonna be the corsair value select pc3200's for 150. By how many fps would this new ram give me? and would it provide a good overclock on this shitty nforce 150 motherboard? Don't know how to sell the old ram on ebay, i'll problabily sell to a friend whos building a $2500 pc for 100 bucks :D

The Corsair Value RAM is great RAM but if you are overclocking you would need to consider something else. Also I doubt you will be able to overclock well on that mobo of yours.
