I'm looking to buy a TV tuner for my apartment. I want to move my TV into the living room and then use my computer as my TV in my bedroom. My only real requirement is that it use a remote. Also, is it possible to control the volume with the remote? How about turning the PC off?

I'm sure this has been answered before, but the search feature is down. Thanks for the help.

Hauppage. They are the best. As for the remote, you can adjust the volume but I dont think any of them turn on/off the comp or monitor.

I can live without the PC turning off. Volume, however.. is pretty much a necessity. Can you provide me with a link?

How about looking into some of the TV Wonder products ATI offers? They are cheap, have a rf remote. Try them out. It really depends on your budget. There are others, like a tuner from Viewsonic and the like that are worth alot more than an ATI card.

It depends on what you are going to use it for. In cards under $100 I think the leadtek and ATI cards are the best value. Cards over $100 should have mpeg encoders. I have a leadtek expert that i am happy with.

I love my leadtek winfast tv 2000xp.

bought it for 35 bucks on the FS/T boards. I run it on my 2nd display so I surf and watch tv at the same time :)

If so, this is what I'll get.

That looks pretty good. I was asking though because my friend recently bought an asus tv card and was unhappy with it. Any other people have any expierences with asus tv cards?

Btw, this one has remote control too.

Yeah it does. I just bought one about 2 weeks ago. The software that comes with it is pretty clunky and I didn't like it but then I didn't play with it much either. Rightnow I am running SageTV and it is real slick but I am just using the trial version. When it runs out I will switch over and try out Beyond TV. If your good at linux you can try Mythtv it looks pretty sweet and unlike the others is free.

Its just doesn't work very well and isn't slick/pretty looking ;) like those other HTPC software packages that are made to handle this stuff. It might not be that bad but like I said I didn't bother to play with it for more then 10mins or so before switching over to SageTV.

They have a really good HTPC section
