Which tablet?

Hi,

I am on the lookout for a 10" android based tablet and am not sure which one to go for.

I am currently looking at the 32GB Asus Transformer (not the Prime, the original), which I can get in the UK for about £350 (about $555 at the moment).

I do not intend to get the keyboard dock and was wondering whether the original Transformer is still a good buy or whether there are better things out there.

Budget-wise, £350 is around the top mark though I would perhaps go a little bit higher if necessary - this definitely puts the Asus Prime out.

I have been looking at the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Galaxy Pad 10.1, but these do not look as good. What do you guys reckon I should go for?

Thanks

Love my tf101 but I only paid $270 after coupons. There is no way I would consider one at the $550 mark. At that point I would definitely be looking towards apple over an android tablet.

I find myself using my tf101 primarily for reading, browsing, and video playback. I use it reluctantly for gaming because it seems most games look awful when stretched to this screens res.

I have just done a googleshopping search and I have found that the TF101 is currently selling for only a little less than $400. When did you buy your tablet?

It seems that the price of this thing is going up rather than down - I looked at one of these a few months back. I cannot remember exactly how much it was then buy I am sure that it was less than I am seeing if for now.

So you think that at the price it currently is, the TF201 just isn't worth it?

The prime has been out for quite a while and I'm surprised at how much the original one is still going for.

Doesn't the Prime suffer from wifi and gps issues unless you're lucky?

The TF101 is a great tablet ever since the ICS update, it really revitalized it's use for me. Honeycomb always felt lacking and sluggish even with custom ROMs. I stopped using the tab for quite some time until the ICS update.

One thing I would recommend is possibly grabbing 16-32gb+ microSD cards instead of paying the ridiculous extra for 32gb vs 16gb internal storage, unless you really need it. Especially if you get the dock too, have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SD card on the way.

$60 for 64gb is a lot better than $100 for 16gb.

This is just badass for a device in its infancy:

I had the TF101, if you are looking to play any type of 1080p you are going to have some performance issues, none with 720p.

Overall it will do everything you will need of it. Its a great tablet. I'm waiting for the 1080p display tablets or the next ultra resolution samsung tablet (rumored).

I almost picked up "The New iPad" just for the resolution but then realized what I was about to get myself into.

I bought it around mid February, I had some coupons at amazon that brought down the price as well as a gift card. The ICS update did make a world of difference for me with my tablet. But it initially had a random reboot issue after the first ICS update. The most recent OTA update solved this problem for me but it seems quite a few people are still having the issue.

IMO the TF101 is the best sub $400 tablet at this point. The only way I would go for something more high end is if I wanted a higher res screen. This would mean waiting for the 1080p prime or the new Ipad. So for me the TF101 is the definite choice over the Xoom 2 or any other, assuming you can get it for a decent price.

I picked up a a500 from a member here sub 300 decent preformance
