Which of these 5.1 system is the best for gaming:

1. Logitech z680
2. Creative Megaworks 550
3. Klipsch Promedia 5.1

Is a very smooth midrange is important in games' soundtracks ?
 
i wouldn't get the creatives or Klipsch just cause i think you get way more bang for the buck with the logitechs. My friend has the z680s and they are really nice for music, games, and movies. very universal in that sense.
 
I'd say stick with speakers that have a two-way design myself, as anything else is a pretty big compromise. I'd say Klipsch speakers are definitely nicer than Logitechs, and I haven't heard Creative's stuff.

Having a flatter FR will be beneficial, no matter what media you are playing, be it games, movies, or music. Music might be the easiest to notice, but I find that all are helped about equally, just in different ways. Having speakers with a high dynamic range can add a lot of frightening realism to video games and movies, along with a big sub to add in that low frequency kick.
 
Logitech = very good budget audio. Pretty much anything you can get that will sound significantly better than it, will cost substantially more.
 
What about Megaworks? I heard, it had the consistent on and off axis and the smoothest midrange. . .
 
I can only vouch for the ProMedia 5.1 Ultra speakers as they are the ones I own and the only ones I have heard. They aren't cheap but they are well worth the money. The Ultras have dual 8" driver sub that really doesn't fall much short of the Klipsch KSW12 that I have on my home setup, and that's saying a lot. It uses a slit in the back for air rather than large holes, and this does reduce the "muddy" sound many subs get when turned up too loud. Highly, highly recommended if you can afford them. You don't even realize the effect it'll have on games 'til you experience it. Hope that helps.
 
The port style should have little to do with the overall quality of bass, it has more to do with the linearity of the driver, what frequencies the driver is playing, and the THD of the driver.
