Which of these would be the best deal?
 
I agree, I've always been wary of Adata since every product I've had of theirs (thumb drive and SD card) have both gone bad within 6 months.
 
You get what you pay for most of the time. Think about the incremental cost per day of use to get the surer quality samsung.
 
Samsung it is, I didn't realize ADATA had so many problems with reliability
 
I have 2 samsungs and are pretty happy with them. I have 1 in my laptop and 1 in my workstation. Speed incrased so much after the update.
 
The price difference isn't night and day between 215 and 189. It's more but it's worth it. The 830 up until the LAMD link media controller came out was the fastest out. Samsung is fast and reliable. Worth the extra cash if you have it. If you want to save that extra money look for a sandforce drive like a Kingston HyperX on special. 3rd fastest controller out.

Fourth fastest. Don't forget about Marvell 88SS9174, which is out :)
 
If you can wait around one month the Samsung 840 should be out. If it lives up to reputation built by the Samsung 830 it should be a great SSD. Well worth a months wait to find out anyway.

Well unless you need an SSD right now today!
 
If you are looking to buy new Good SSD for cheap price, i would suggest keep an eye out @ Gadgetar. Right now they have listed $89 = 180GB Ocz Agility 3 :)


Samsung 830 is the best, but expensive in terms of $/GB.

ocz ssd is horrible.
 
The plextox m5p is currently unavailable in my region. I can wait a month to see how the 840 is and if it brings a price drop to the 830.

Where did you see a release date for the Samsung 840? I saw the product was announced at IFA Berlin, but I did not see any release date mentioned.

I'm going off of a best guess by the SSD Editor over at Anandtech.com. It's not anything but a guess. Sorry, I should've clarified that. :(;) It sounds about right though if you ask me (2 months at the latest!)...lol.


Usually SSDs go on sale as soon as they are officially announced. That link I sent you seems to be a teaser more than an announcement since it lacked even basic details.

I would estimate the Samsung 840 to be available early next month, but this is just my guess.

I disagree. I have a Vertex 3 and I've never one had an issue with it. But I religiously update the firmware on my SSDs before I use them full time. My stepson's machine has a solid 3 same deal, rock solid.

This.

The problem with ocz is the randomness. They are all over the place with reliability. I've got two revodrives that have been rock solid for years, but a couple out of many sata ssd's that have died. I don't keep track enough to say which ones have died, I simply retire them when they do. They've used at least 3 different controllers (granted intel has used at least 2?) and I just feel like they've flip-flopped so much and updated the firmwares often. It would be annoying to keep flashing user machines frequently, so I don't unless there's a problem.

Not that others haven't had issues either, see crucials M4 5200 hour bug.

With so much competition, there's little reason to choose them.

One user is not a sample size. Their drives have been better lately, but they had atrocious problems with the Agility drives and their customer service is legendarily bad. Kind of a "fool me once" kind of thing - it'll take a while for the stain of those problems to wear off.

Yep that's the problem. You may get an OCZ SSD and it'll work perfectly fine for years, but then someone else can buy the exact same model and have major problems within a couple months.

When it comes to storage I'm willing to spend a bit more or accept slightly lower performance to have peace of mind and stability. Re-installing/re-imaging your OS and waiting for RMAs isn't fun.

The only SSDs I'd buy right now are Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. The Intel 520 is reliable too, but it's overpriced.
