Which SSD is better for gaming?

This review has both competing against several SSD's. The Samsung has faster sequential reads where the M4 has faster random reads.

So if you're building a gaming rig I'd go with the Samsung. If you were doing a workstation then probably the Crucial.

The difference is only on paper. You will never be able to tell them apart, speed wise. Of the 2 go for the one with the best price, they are both great drives.

But just as an FYI none are going to be better in games then an HDD. Just faster load times. About the only game I can think off where it could affect performance is with TOR with its voice quest system and the constant loads that come from it.

Samsung 830, Crucial M4, Plextor M3 / M3 Pro... doesn't matter. They're all stupid fast, and they're all not Sandforce. Though to be fair the latest crop of Sandforce drives don't seem to suck nearly as bad anymore.

Bad advice.

Not really. 99% of the time people are way the hell better off if gaming on a budget throwing $200-300 that would have gone to a SSD in to a better display or faster GPU. I spent nearly $300 on SSDs... and I barely notice the difference compared with a pair of 640GB 7200RPM HDDs in RAID 0.

A SSD will only affect load and save times. They do not help improve frame rates.

If the goal is to load games faster (saving games is pretty quick anyway), then SSD is the way to go.

I use 2 Crucial M4s: one for Steam and one for Origin and disc installs and non-Steam games. I would never go back to a hard drive.

I am really waiting for Intel to add TRIM support to their IRST so I can put them both back into RAID0.

So I ended up picking up two 128gb M4's. I got them for $128 each with free shipping and no tax (NewEgg daily special). Anyone know if they will do RAID-0 on an A75 chipset board? The board itself supports RAID-0 but I've heard horror stories about raiding SSD's.

You can RAID them, but TRIM/Garbage collection wont work on them anymore. Therefore the performance will start to degrade over time.

GC will work but it becomes a hassle for the drives and you will need to pay more attention to how good the gc is before purchase. That's why trim was developed, to streamline the process. You can raid them just wouldn't recommend it.
