which speakers to buy?

Currently using the speakers built into my monitor.
In my area I have 2 choices in the second hand market that I'm considering:

Creative I-Trigue 3400 2.1 Speakers £15
Creative GIGAWORKS T40 £25

primarily used for movies but will also be used for music and gaming.
 
The T40s are a speaker set I have always seen recommended when someone needs a decent speaker system that is budget friendly. The T40s are a well-rounded speaker system and by that I have read that they perform decent for both movies, music and games. The Creative I-Trigue speaker system in comparison has more bass with the dedicated subwoofer which would absolutely make it the better set for movies and games however I have also read that their performance with music leaves a little to be desired.

That said, I would go with the T40s.
 
Last thing, considering that I have never heard these speakers in person myself I believe it is best if you take my post with a grain of salt.

If possible, I would HIGHLY recommend you to audition these speakers yourself to make your decision.
 
Thanks for the advice, I will try to see if I can find a shop that will let me demo both sets.
