Which RAM to choose?

Hi!

I'm building myself a new PC.
Here's what I got so far :
p4 2.4C,
Ic7-max3,
sp94 with tornado (yeah I know it'll be loud... but I needed to know where I can go with high CFM like that :D ),
arctic silver 5,
5 case fans...

Now I'm looking for RAM and I really don't know what to choose. It's confusing 'cause I read that some hate dividers, some don't, some overclock well, some are rated high MHz but have high latencies, BH5 chips are better but harder to find... Some have gold heatsinks, others have platinum, copper, silver, nice looking LEDs...

Any suggestions? What must I absolutly avoid? What's my best bet overclock/perfomance/quality wise?

Thanks!

performance/overclock/quality.....one thing you left out is cost....that being said without considering cost Corsair XMS4400 is the absolute best.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

I personally would recommend Mushkin PC3500 Low-Level Black 2. OCZ appears to have put together some good memory with their PC4000 offerings, but they had a horrible reputation for quality and customer service not very long ago.

I'd take a company with a good reputation (and Mushkin's is great) over the chance to get another 100MHz of memory speed.

And FWIW, in most applications memory speed is more important than latency timings.

I've been using some high speed, high latency Corsair and OCZ stuff lately (4400 and 4200 respectively, with 4400 OCZ on the way) and I have to say from my benchmarks with a 2.4C theres little to split a system running 1:1 (in my case 275MHz, which is bang on PC4400) at high latencies and 5:4 (220MHz memory) at lower latencies.
Personally I'd go for some low latency PC3500 to give u a bit more flexibility

Mushkin's customer service is so good in fact, they give you a courtesy call to see how your RAM is running a few weeks after you buy it. I've never tried Corsair or other brands, but after making the switch to DDR from pc133, I don't think i'll ever buy anything but Mushkin.

I've ordered from mushkin since 1999 and never got this call??

The OCZ guys hang out in my Main forum home Xtremesystems. and have a support area there. They bend over backwards now.

They are far from the previous owners.

I use to be a big corsiar fanboy for years, That's all there was as in the best. But gave up on it lately, Problems with it running in boards.

Plus i get better numbers now from other brands.

I've got some Geil 4200 that runs 295fsb 1:1, which is the limit of my 2.6 chips, Dropping down to a 5:4 the chips maxes out. My baord i used to run @ 315fsb with a 2.4c but that chip's been long gone.

I've been using geil platinum 256mb 3500 in customers computers, Cheap around or under $45 for 256 stick, And i've never had to RMA a stick in 2 years.

BH5's can be had @ Zipzoom for $61 for Kingston HyperX pc3000's. I stocked up on a lot of them and they will all make it to 250fsb or better 1:1 2-2-2-2 timings or better with a lot of volts. Modded board of course. Best i've ever got them was 262 1:1 .

BH5 is BH5 no matter who makes it. I stocked up for the long BH- less days ahead!!!

You guys better get it now while you can. The singles are 512's , the duals are 256's X 2

tehandydumke?????????? What is an ICE PIPE that you have in your sig. Linkie if you could.

wow you sure got a lot of money to throw around.

why are you stocking up on ram...won't you buy DDR 2 when it comes out?

From what I've gathered, Ted runs a small PC shop.

I think Ted will deplete that stock in the coming six months.
