Hey guys, well am just having trouble deciding on what r9 270x i should get im thinking of the MSI r9 270x and the sapphire toxic r9 270x? but any other suggestions would be helpful.

The only one you should get is a 200$ model and not a cent more - that's the intended price. Sadly it seems that the mining craze has begun to hit the 270X cards as well.

Once you're inching up towards 230, 240$, you're better off with a GTX 760 which is a significantly faster card by 15-20% across all games except for perhaps BF4, (where the 270X could be competitive, depending on how recent the drivers are on the 760) and better price/performance, as others have mentioned. The 270X is essentially a 7870 with a 50mhz overclock/200mhz VRAM overclock, and that is not worth more than 200 bucks.

That said, I have seen 7850 cards on sale for 130$ and 7870 cards around the 180$ mark. I haven't seen them recently, but if you can find one of those cards - it would be a better buy. The 270X is essentially a slightly overclocked 7870, so a sale priced 7870 for under 200$ is a good bet if you can find one.

It's unfortunate that the 270X is suffering from availability and price creep since Xmas rush season where it was like $200-210 and now $220-250. I'd still take it over the one trick pony Nvidia which is only good for gaming whereas AMD is good at gaming along with being more versatile for other things like crypto currency mining, password/hash cracking along with the work in progress on Mantle. Even with the inflated pricing it's still cheaper and faster than 760 for things that matter:

yeah but the game i play the most is bf4 and people are saying that its better than the 760 at bf4

What resolution are you playing at? I would agree with the above post, the difference between the two cards is negligible at best. Take the cheaper of the two.

Depends Wat cpu u have. If it's an i5 or i7 the 760 will be faster in bf4. If u have a crappy cpu or an AMD cpu (same crappy) then get the 270x so you can take advantage of mantle.

Actually, the GTX 760 is faster in BF4 with updated nvidia drivers. As mentioned, the charts linked by mitchy above are old drivers. The newer drivers increased performance quite a bit for all NV cards in BF4:

Overall, the GTX 760 is a much faster card across all games. The 270X is competetive in BF4, but that is one game. Whether that matters to you is your call. But as far as I can see it, the 270X and 760 are the same price - and the GTX 760 is just a much better overall card.

What it boils down to is this: You can either buy a card for one game (270X and BF4) which to me would be retarded, or you can buy a card for all games. (GTX 760). The 760 is faster in BF4 with the newest NV drivers. But, it's also 10-20$ more expensive potentially, but makes up for that with 15-20% better overall performance. It's all up to you, since they're close to the same price. The other variable is mining which I personally give no fucks about, but if that matters to you, I would obviously agree that the 270X would be better for that purpose. The GTX 760 would be better for gaming, even in BF4.

If cost is a huge issue to you, you may want to scour slickdeals for on sale 7850 prices. I've seen some of those for absurdly cheap prices, even as low as 130$. There have been a few 7870 cards (same as 270X) around the 180$ mark as well, but I haven't seen those in recent weeks. If you can find something along those lines, snatch it up. But once you're in the 230$+ territory, the GTX 760 is the best bang for the buck in terms of gaming.

xoleras, thx for the info man u kinda made me change my mind haha alright will start looking at the 760 now on

I'm pretty sure you can mine with nvidia cards (AMD is the preferred mining cards), but they say cudaminer works pretty well.

Shadowplay is pretty cool too if you're into that kind of stuff.
Buy whatever you like though. You'd probably be happy with either one.

He didn't mention the MSI shorty 760 is factory overclocked to 1033MHz CPU as compared to reference 760 at 980MHz CPU.

Unless you're in a rush wait for the next shipment of R9 270X at BH for $210 and possibly no tax.

Or, you can buy a R9 270 which is closer to the reference 760 for $190 which is in stock at Fry's. Might get this myself to swap out the other Nvidia since R9 290 price won't normalize anytime soon.

$250 for 760 is nuts especially for a one trick pony.
