Hey guys, I'm planning on upgrading a lot of my computer pretty soon, its most likely going to have an athlon 64, 1gig+ of ddr, maybe a raptor 74gb 10000rpm hd, and either a 6800gt or an x800xtpe. It will also have probably 2 cd/dvd drives, fans, etc. I will be overclocking it also. I want a good psu, and I think I found 3 pretty good ones, but I"m not sure which is the best. What do you guys think will work best for me? Thanks :)

Any reason why? Right now I am kind of leaning towards antec because they have a good reputation, and the high amps on the 12v rail, and all the rails in general. Anyone else have any thoughts? Thanks :)

Of the three, Enermax gets my vote ! Better than the Antec by far IMHO and well, I don't know much about the ocz psu to comment

I am powered w/ ENERMAX 660w(one stepupgrade above Enermax 550w). Both are server/dual cpu grade psus w/ ATX 12 extension. It is a little bit longer than antec 550 and the cords are also longer. You need a full tower case to comfortably mount this psu. Performance wise, let's put it this way..I killed 3 psus Antec 550, 430 and Thermaltake/MadDog 550 using 6800U watercooled/overclocked to 490/1250, 4X 120GB HDs,2 deltas 1212 ehe(3amps ea. at start)for radiator alot of case fans. AMD 3700 overclocked to 2.9Ghz/1.8Vcore. With ENERMAX 660w it is no problem even with this heavy overclocking. The drawback is 5Volt rail can spike to 5.8/6.1V if it used with only regular system w/o heavy load.

Just make sure you buy ATX 12V(or w/adapter)psu not EPS 12V

they all ahev more than enough amps on the 12v (20 is the minimum) they are all good psu's so get whatever you want

but imho i would get the ocz

Ok well I have been looking around at other reviews, and the ocz seems to be highly recommended. I'm really not sure what to look at as far as power supplies go, are the amps on each rail all that really matters? Because the amps are:

Enermax:+3.3V@36A; +5V@36A; -5V@1A; +12V@36A; -12V@1A; +5VSB@2.2A

Antec:+3.3V@32A;+5V@40A;-5V@0.5A;+12V@36A;-12V@1A;+5VSB@2A

OCZ:+3.3V@28A, +5V@40A, +12V@33A, -5V@0.5A, -12V@0.5A, +5VSB@2.0A

Just looking at those, the enermax and antec ones seem slightly better, so how come the ocz psu comes so highly recommended? I would think 12v rail would be very important b/c of the power demands of current high-end video cards, and the ocz has the lowest 12v. So what is the deal? Is there any real reason why one would be better than the other? I know any of them will probably work fine, but I like to get the best deal for my money :D

Well the OCZ one is 520 watt vs. the others being 550watt, which is why the amps on the rails for the others are slightly higher.

Your right ! the higher the amperage the better, and yes, the higher amp 12V rail is what you'll need for a 6800

The enermax gets my vote!

the ocz is a good unit, so that's my second choice...

the antec SUCKS!

I like my green Super Flower 450w 14cm, it's been rock solid. I think they're going for around $60 @ Directron

I have the 600W Noisetaker and it's the quietest component in my relatively quiet system (6800GT is loud but the NV5 will soon shut it up). I'm pleased with the Enermax. The OCZ sounds good too though. Had an Antec before that quit after one month.
