Which program to trust with temperature of Atom CPU?

I just recently built a mini-ITX system a few days ago around a Intel D945GCLF motherboard with an integrated 1.60GHz Atom 230 processor with Hyper-Threading. Anyway, I have been using CoreTemp 0.99.0.16 to monitor temperatures. Now, I ran Everest Ultimate yesterday only to find that the temperatures are very different. The temperatures below are with a DVD playing in the corner and typing this entry.

Everest: 55C
CoreTemp: 32C

I am not overly concerned about its temperature since it has a TDP of around 4W and is passively cooled by a small aluminum heatsink. That said, I like to keep an eye on my temps; the geek in me I guess. :p

Using CoreTemp I have yet to see the temps exceed 40C, now maybe that is right but I have never used a system like this before and it kind of makes me suspicious.

Thanks.

Seems about right, at a guess obviously since I don't own an atom cpu. :p

Everest doesn't read the internal cpu temp like copre temp does, it reads whatever the motherboard has 'declared' to be the cpu temperature. Usually this is just an old skool temp probe under the cpu area and so not a good reading.

A good indicator that you're getting a good reading is if the coretemp reading is very reactive to the cpu activity. A slow increase in temp as you set it doing something, and then a sharp decline as you stop and it should then further taper down to stable temp.

Yeah, it does change temperature in a fashion you would expect if you put it under load or just let it idle. Thank you very much, I wasn't aware that Everest still read core temperatures that way.
