which processor?

deciding between these two processors:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego Integrated into Chip FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail

I was set on the 3800+, but I was told to go with the 3700+. I am not sure why.. the 1mb L2 cache? The thing is, the 3800+ is venice (which is better for oc, right?), and also is .2 ghz faster.

Personally I would get the 3700 (san Diego) ;)

The San Diego should overclock nicely also..

I would get the San Diego, if you are planning on OC'ing it the 1mb cache will help you out :)

How exactly would the extra cache help you get higher clockspeeds?

It wont but the E3 core (Venice) and the E4 core (San Diego) overclocks about to the same frequenzies and at same frequens 1Mb>0.5Mb :D

Thanks for that important tidbit.

Okay, if you're keeping it completely stock forever, then the 3800+. If you are going to overclock, both CPU's should overclock to the same clockspeed and that extra 1MB of cache helps with performance so then you'd want the 3700+.

You can always overclock MHz, but you can't get any more cache. ;)
