Hi All,

Great Site here...

First post ...so hello everybody....

Question..... How do I know what processor I can upgrade to?

Background..... I have a 5 Zone Whole House Audio setup using. Girder5 & NR2
on a Vista32 HomeP System with a Delta1010 Audio Rack this is fed to an Onkyo605 & Teac AG-980 various IR & RS232 controlled 'bits & bobs' accessed by two 19" Elo 1939l touchscreens and a Nokia770 Internet Tablet . this all fits into a 23up Rack. I have swapped everything over to a smaller case and upgraded the power supply and increased the memory to the advised 2G (paired).

Then it dawned on me that the processor would not be quick enough?

the motherboard is a Asrock 775i65GV
bios version is P1.90
pcb version??? how do I find this info???
graphics card is a nvidia geforce7600

processor at present is a intel celeron 2.66GHz

I hope that enough info for answers if not ask away...

You are running a 5 year old board and an old p4 based celeron. The Asrock is a 775 board, but I doubt it will handle a core2duo. I went to Asrock's site and their bios and driver updates for this board wouldn't even load. If you want to upgrade, you may need to replace your motherboard too. Others can chime in here.

You would certainly see an improvement in multimedia handling if you upgraded. That said, what about your system isn't working for you?

Would you suggest buying a new ready built PC? if not necessary which MB & Processor would you recommend

to help assist you in your views I don't mind buying the best if thats what needed but I am quite happy buying something that is capable for my needs...I just don't know the difference ?


the system works OK.... just hangs sometimes

I want to use the screens as TV's to stream cable (using PCTV to go box at present) this stutters all the time

I would need at least 4 slots (pci I think) for video card, delta1010, RS232x4 (2 cards)

4 PCI slots probably rules out most OEM builds these days. You should check the online retailers in the UK an see if you can find a modern board that meets your needs. The build gwarren suggested would probably do fine for your needs.

the board you have now has 3 pci slots according to the model you posted
the video card you have, based on what you described is agp

Is there a new type out...if so what do you reccommend

what processor do you recommend for this MB

and what Graphics card?
