Ok, I'm using my new build for mostly gaming... Mostly FPS games...Crysis, Far Cry, COD4, etc etc...

I can't decide whether to go dual core or quad core...I'm thinking of either the Q6700 or the E8500. Which would be better for games? Assuming that the only thing I'm running at the time are games.

Is there any benefit to a slightly slower dual quad core vs a faster dual core? Or is it vise-versa?

Tons of these threads around already. Dual core likely to overclock higher, quad core gives you more flexibility. At this point, for just games, higher clocked dual is probably better, but depending on your video card you might or might not notice the difference.
 
If you're overclocking, you may want to look at the Q6600 also; you gain little from the Q6700. The same may be the case with E8400 vs E8500, I'm not sure. The stock dual-core will be faster, if both are overclocked there's probably little difference in games, maybe a minimal advantage to the dual.

Just about every thread in this subforum is about dual vs quad, you may want to search the others since people aren't replying as much as they used to.
