im trying to get my system to run at 3.4ghz and im trying to isolate the instability to either the ram or the cpu. i put it up to 3.4 with the ram running 5:4 and ran memtest86, it complete with 0 errors 40 times. so im thinking the ram is running stable, next i went into windows and ran the 'small fft' prime test because i wanted to put the most stress on the cpu, and its been running overnight so far so good. but my question is, i am positive that i tested this configuration before but instead of running the small fft i ran the blend test and it failed after about 4.5-5 hours...

has anyone ever had a system stable in one prime test but not the other? and which test is best to use or am i good in testing my ram with memtest86 and my cpu with the small fft test of prime?
 
If you want to test your RAM use Memtestx86 and let it run all night, if it fails once then its your RAM.
 
well i confirmed it and it ran for a full 24 hours at 3.4ghz with no errors, thats using the small fft test. im afraid to run the other tests cause i dont think itll pass :(

has anyone ever had that happen, itll pass one test but not another in prime95?
 
Yea, I dont consider my rig stable unless it will run them all 24hrs =\ That's just me though and my preference.
 
isolating JUST the CPU small FFTs will do it.
wanna stress your rama nd or mobo try the other tests.
wanna stress JUST your ram run memtest86

well, ive had 2 ic7's now and they both hit a wall at the same fsb and in know this cpu was capable of 3.5ghz on air, and im struggling to hit 3.4. if its not the ram, or cpu, i dont know what else it could be.

so what are the different test good for testing?

well its possible its the CPU since no OC is gauranteed. however if itll go higher on a different mobo useing the same ram...ill say its your ram.
If you can get some other ram from a friend or what not try that..if it works its your ram.
I wish I knew a program that tested just the mobo and chipset but it dont sad to say :(
 
im going to go home today and run a blend test, if it passes that then whatever i did stabalized it. if not ill just set it back to 3.25, i cant complain with 271fsb and 1:1 ram :)
