My uncle randomly gave me a 3Ghz P4 CPU, and I have no idea if its a regular 3.0GHz and whether if its a Northwood or Prescott. On the chip all it says is "Intel 82, Pentium 4, 3ghz, 512, 800, SL6WU MALAY, L351A773, M351c286, 0006," and some random 1mmx1mm pic next to the last two numbers mentioned. Anyone got any ideas? (I can't use/test this chip yet, don't have every parts of the computer)

Sir Fragalot : Can you tell me how you knew it..? Did you do some research or know it by reading the numbers?

put the stepping into a google search field, proceed by hitting "enter." This tends to yield results.

SL6WU is a Northwood stepping for 3.0C and all "C" have hyperthreading...and i just knew this by memory:eek: :D

I knew it simply because I keep informed on the latest processor trends and what's on the market.

I know that all 3+ GHz processors in the P$ line are Northwoods. Prescott just came out so theres the Prescott core now. But it breaks down like this.

3.06GHz=Northwood B 533MHz FSB W/Hyperthreading. (First HT enabled CPU outside the XEON line.)

3.0C=Northwood C 800MHz FSB W/Hyperthreading.

3.0E=Prescott 800MHz FSB W/Hyperthreading.

How I knew it was a 3.0C was the SL6WU code. I know that code from the overclocking forums I read. It's something that I keep up with as a hardware enthusiest.
