Hi and Merry Xmas Eve everyone.
For my HTPC with XBMC and Window media Center

Which Windows version should i buy ???

If you're still looking at Windows, 7 has WMC built in, 8 does not (requires an additional purchase). 32bit seems to work flawlessly, 64bit acts a bit funny with some remotes (hyper sensitive).
 
Windows 8 has sleep problems & a lot of people have problems with it waking up properly. Windows 7 works flawlessly.
 
You can use 7 Premium or Ultimate. One thing Ive always ran into is after using the PC for a couple months it would slow to a craawwwwllllll. Even on my extenders which only ran windows and everything else was pulled from the server. The only remedy was adding an SSD to each one. The problem was so bad on one of the extenders it would take about 30 min to boot before you could actually do anything.
 
Open Elec or a Linux Distro that uses XBMC as the desktop environment is a great option if you just want to stream local media or get media from online sources. If you want to have a Blu-Ray playing software, PC Games, or anything else that you would need Windows for go with Win 7. I tried Win 8 on my HTPC and within a day I was back to Win 7.
 
windows 8 is not that bad, i have been running it for 3 weeks now with no major issues and would say it feels just a little faster than win 7. I would say that the metro thing is junk but nothing windows classic start menu doesnt fix. As far as media center it is free for now but you do have to register for it, again my personal preference in that regard is xbmc anyway. the best thing about it versus win 7 is that you can get a upgrade license for $29 or the full blown version for $59 whereas win7 ultimate is still way over 100. if i had a little more patience and didnt game i would prob go the linux xbmc distro but i dont have the patience if it doenst work out of the box.
