Which OS on this system, its for gaming.

With hopes of going Dual Core later on, this is my friends system.

Opteron 144 @ 3.0ghz
2gb of DDR 400
80Gb hard drive
9600GT (soon to be a 9800GTX - getting it for cheap)


We can get from school, Xp Professional or Vista Business 32 bit or 64 bit, either one works.

which do you recommend

It's a 64-bit CPU I would install 64-bit Vista. Also, Ram is so cheap and getting cheaper, he may want to upgrade to 4GBs or more later, which will need 64-bit Vista to use it all.
 
he doesnt want to spend anymore money, DDR 1 is a lil more expensive than ddr2. So 64 bit will perform well on his single core and 2gb of ram?

I just dont want to install it and have him have problems with anything. He is using XP Pro right now and we want to do a fresh reinstall of a new OS.

I've got it running on an Athlon 64 3500 w/ 2 gigs RAM just pleasantly.
