Which OS for web server?

I used to run a network of gaming sites, but that was about 5 years ago. Back then, I used Red Hat 6 primarily. Now I'm thinking of getting back into the mix, but I'm feeling a bit out of touch. Can someone tell me what the best Linux distribution for a web server is today?

Debian. Any distibution will do, though, provided you set it up properly. But I like Debian for servers. FreeBSD is also great if you feel like going outside the linux box.
 
I prefer Slackware myself, it's also very stable like Debian-Stable. There is also Trustix Linux which is focused on security, but I haven't used that distro.

Me too, and it runs .NET 2.0 and all. You really can't go wrong with a Microsoft Server OS. It depends though if you using ASP then go Windows, PHP then I'd go with Debian like everyone else said.
 
Can't go wrong with FreeBSD either. It's probably a matter of taste, these days: Most distros will work fine.
 
I'm more familiar with Windows servers today, but I'm going for cheap, so I think I'll give one of the Linux distros a go. Thanks for comments!
 
My preference for a pure web server is by far OpenBSD. Ridiculously secure by default with minimal to no configuration required. Just edit httpd.conf and drop it on the web.

No GUI, no services turned on to worry about, none of that crap. Just an OS. It will look and feel just like linux. I highly suggest you try it out.

lol? Windows Server is a legitimate OS to run servers on. You shouldn't bring your personal beef with Microsoft here.
