Please help me to find a good monitor to replace my old 226bw. I already have three candidates in 22'' range, (i don't need bigger) and i am really not decided, and i need your help.
Here there are: DELL 2209WA (e-IPS), DELL U2211H 21.5 (e-IPS, full HD), HP ZR22w 21.5 (S-IPS, full HD).
I've noticed that both Dell U2211H and HP ZR22w have higher response time and lower luminosity than Dell 2209wa. Will that make an impact?
I mostly game, movies and internet...nothing color critical and shit like that
I will appreciate your opinions, thank you.

Dell U2311H, 16:9 21.5" monitors are actually smaller than the 226bw, the U2311H is more in line size wise with the 226bw and is the best value. It also has the best image quality for gaming/films. Higher luminosity is a bad thing, the brighter the picture the more washed out it will look, dark scenes will become grey. Ignore the response time info, it is just marketing, read the reviews to see how fast a monitor is.

Thank you for the reply, but what do you say about the HP is a true S-IPS monitor, are you familiar with it? Aren't the S-IPS's better than e-IPS?

There are colour critical monitors that use panels described as "e-IPS". It doesn't mean anything. S-IPS is old and inefficient. The newer H-IPS and S-IPS II products are more efficient and have higher contrast. What this mainly describes is the design of the subpixels.

What matters is the actual product quality.

I have experience with a Dell U2311 and a 2209WA. The U2311 is twice as efficient as the 2209WA and has a contrast edge. Unfortunately the U2311 has noticeable inhomogeneity where the 2209WA is mostly uniform.

Overall these monitors are good value for most users yet cannot be recommended for graphics. They seem to be well made and there are few reports of spontaneous failure. If I lived outside of Australia and had a hard cap on what I could pay and what I wanted from my monitor, I would probably choose an NEC EA232WMi.

U2311H is the way to go if you intend to play games, else NEC EA232WMi.

I second that. An upgrade from 1680*1050 to 1920*1080 is really important. Everything just becomes so much easier.

well then, i will just have choose between the Dell 2209wa and DELL U2211H...hmmmm

There have also been reports of tinting in the 2209WA. There is no information on how common the issue is.

so, overall you're saying that Dell U2211H is the way to go and i think the properties are fairly similar to U2311H, no?

I am brand new here so I don't know much.
It looks like the Dell 2209WA is no longer made but amazon & others still have them for absurd prices.
I do not think I want a 16x9 screen. I don't watch movies or play games on the computer.
Are there any other options for a 22" IPS 16x10 with matte screen?

@ Oled - I don't understand what you mean by: "Everything just becomes so much easier."

Do not get a U221H, it is smaller than the 2209WA and will seem tiny. U2311H is the way to go.
