-- What your budget is (and whether it includes taxes, shipping charges, and/or other costs)
1.2-1.3k
-- Which parts you need within that budget
Everything in a tower
-- What the system is going to be used for
Adobe After effects, Adobe premier, 3ds max, bascially video editing and video encoding.
-- All of the components that you already have and/or are planning on reusing
NONE
-- Which components you are considering getting (list out your components with model numbers/names along with links to the stores you're getting them from)
List is below
-- The question(s) you have -- or, the reason you made the thread in the first place
Is all the parts here compatible with each other which parts should i take out or change?
i noticed that the i7 860 is limited versus i7 920 seems like the system i should be going for? Should i upgrade the gfx?
i7 920 :$1,279.91
i7 860: $1,179.91

I would definitely go with the 920.

And, if the stuff you are going to be doing is very RAM intensive, faster RAM wouldn't be a bad idea. Upping it to DDR3-2000 (triple channel) will give you around 32-34GB/sec throughput according to Sisfot Sandra. DDR3-1600 would give you around 25-27GB/sec. Not sure what 1333 gives you but I would guess about 22-23GB/sec.. maybe a bit less unless it has really tight timings.

Not sure about the case, but I personally wouldn't spend $160 on a steel case... I'm still using an Aluminum case I bought for $80 about 6 years ago. Aluminum cases help keep the system cooler as well compared to steel cases.

You probably really don't need an 850w power supply unless you are planning on running a couple
5970s.

Case I think is way overpriced. Try an Antec 300, Not as flashy but very well made & 100 dollars less (with free shipping on the egg as well) And for the PSU you should be able to knock 50-75 off & still have more then enough juice with a High Quality (antec or Corsair) unit. Giving what you are doing as well if you can find the budget I believe a SSD makes a huge difference when encoding (thats hearsay though since I dont do much encoding, but I am sure someone else will chime in on that)

The second one hands down. Go to Microcenter and get the i7 920 for 179 or the 930 for 199 then you can up the video card to a 5850.

Not only is a 850W PSU is unnecessary, that particular 850W PSU isn't even that good of a buy for a 850W PSU. I recommend this combo instead:
$100 - XFX P1-650X-CAG9 650W Modular PSU

That XFX 650W PSU is of far better quality than the Antec 850W PSU and is more than enough for your setup. That shaves off $50.

GPU wise, didn't see gaming mentioned in your usage scenario so I don't see a need for the HD 5770 at all. Hell you could go as low as the $50 HD 5450 and you'll be set. That shaves off ~$100 to ~$120:
$50 - XFX HD-545X-YNH2 Radeon HD 5450 512MB PCI-E Video Card

I have no issues with your case. HDD wise, that's a piss poor price for a 500GB drive, even it was supposedly now a single platter version. I recommend these better price to performance HDD instead:
$70 - Western Digital WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$100 - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Get that Core i7 920 and Gigabyte mobo from this combo to shave off an additional $25:
$470 - Intel Core i7-920 CPU + Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R X58 ATX Motherboard Combo

The above changes should save you about $175 to $200. That's more than enough cash for a SSD:
$125 - Intel SSDSA2MP040G2R5 2.5" 40GB SSD
$220 - Intel SSDSA2M080G2XXX 2.5" 80GB SSD

ooh i thought continuous power supply > active power supply. ill probably change the hdd it fails agree lol. hmm im thinking of going to microcenter and grabbing the cpu itself
