What he said.Badger_sly said:If you can, hold out for a little while and get the 6600 for around $199.
If you have to get one now, go with the 5900xt. It's on par with a 9800pro, which is faster in DX 9 based games, while the 5900xt is faster in Open GL based games. In comparing drivers and game compatibility, that advantage definitely goes to nVidia and the 5900xt.
But, as I said, your best bang for the buck would be waiting for and getting an nVidia 6600.
Personally, I'd still wait for the AGP version rather than buy old technology. The PCI-e version of the 6600 should be available later this month, and nVidia surely will be eager to get an AGP version of their mainstream card since the mainstream motherboards are still AGP. Of course, I have no idea how soon this will happen, which is why I also agree with Badger_sly that he should get the 5900XT if he can't wait.Netrat33 said:Maybe Nvidia will release an AGP version (and probably will) but currently PCI-e version isn't even available.

By older tech I meant the 5900 series, rather than waiting for the 6600 series (newer tech).Netrat33 said:Maybe I'm not understanding you.
The PCI-e version IS newer technology. Don't get it confused with regular PCI cards
You can't just put a PCI-E card in your current motherboard.
If I'm not reading what you posted correctly: my bad.
Yup, sheerly for the price while he saves his pennies for a newer vid card a la the 6X00 series. But I still believe waiting on the AGP version of the 6600GT is the best option. The Batman said:Why the hell are you reccomending a freaking 5900XT? Only logical reason to get one over a 9800Pro would be price [if it's $50 cheaper than it's a good deal].

Get the 9800Pro
Yeah.Netrat33 said:Vote Bush in![]()
I'm far from biased.
Badger_sly said:Won't the first pci-e cards, such as the 6600, come with a bride/adapter for using in an AGP slot? I thought I read about that somewhere.
That is a blantantly uneducated statement. HL2 isn't out, so it's pointless to say something like that, concerning the FX 5900 series cards. And CS:Source is not HL2, so don't even bother.
A 9800pro might be slightly faster in HL2, when it comes out, but, nVidia is known for increasing performance through it's drivers.
And IMO the image difference between DX9 and DX8.1 is hardly noticeable, not better one way or the other.
