Cooler Master case with 2 case fans, and maybe a hd cooler...

That is my system, with possible upgrades in the future to ram and hd. I dont plan on overclocking it all, i'll just use it for gaming and internet. I've been recommended for the Enermax, but a friend is wanting to sell me the Vantec for pretty good price. I'm looking for something that will handle my system real smooth, especially when i start playing HL2 and Doom 3.
 
do you think that i'll be able to put some more " yumf " into it? I'm talking about maybe a ram upgrade to a gig or 2, maybe a bigger hd?
 
haha, 4 or 5 hds :p :p That will never happen, that is way to many for me. I'd like to go with a little bit of 100gb, just to make sure all my games are covered and other random stuff. I dont listen to mp3s that much at all, so i dont have to worry about having mp3.com file server. I just want a regular ol system that plays games and is pretty up to date * good luck *.
 
you say that now :p

a RAID 5 or 3 array efficiency increases with the number of drives in the array
total available space is the number of drives minus one
the smallest array possible is 3
so 3 x100GB drives = 200GB
or
8 x 100GB drives = 700GB

as soon as you start to warehouse a larger database (media ect)
you quickly realize the advantages of true redundancy over a single drive
(its generally a painful lesson)
not thats its actually a replacement for real hard media backup
(another painful lesson)

I run an internal array of 6 x 40 GB RAID 5 on a Promise SX6000
and 2 additional External RAID 5 arrays on old Dot Hill SANnets
(not all on the same box of course)
 
at one point (in a long lost thread) a data storage forum wag actually estimated how many boobs there where on average in a terabyte :p

and immediately coined the term teraboob :p
that was back when I got the SANnets (2TB)

its a pretty simple matter to fill up say 200GB of space with DVD 1:1 ISOs however
or even high res photography slowly eats it up (tif or raw 5 megapixal)
