Which monitor?

On viewsonics website, they don't say if the monitor is a true 16.77mil color display..... so I would be hesitant unless you knew it was.

Having said that though, I would still recommend a good 19" LCD over the CRT. Much lighter, smaller footprint, vivid colors, lower power usage, better geometry, etc.
I saw a nice little Acer 1912s 19" LCD at compusa, 260$us after 40$ instant savings... not bad at all! has the 16.7mil colors. Might be something you should look into.

Edit: just noticed newegg also has that acer, for a 242$us.

~Hope this helps

I contacted Viewsonic early this morning and the tech guy said it does have 16.7 million colors

To me its no contest, the 2070 rocks especially at gaming. CRTs display more accurate color and thats a fact. It certainly beats the crap out of the Samsung 930B at least.

in my opinion:

still picture quality:
lcd > crt
i prefer the the vivid, crisp, and sharp image over the more accurate but blande look of crt images. but i do miss my blacks, and perfect color uniformity.

motion picture:
crt >> lcd
lcd ghosting is distracting and very obvious IF i LOOK for it, which i do at times. not just a huge problem in fps shooters, but also slow paced games like prince of persia. i've learned to ignore the ghosting. but it's there, and i still see it. if you dont, you're just blind...but i envy you.;)

size/weight:
lcd >> crt
20" crt? blah, big no no for me as there's only one desk in my dorm room. desk space is valuable. and i move it a lot for the breaks.

sexiness factor:
lcd >>> crt
lcds are just so much sexier on your desk, having my crt makes my computer set up aged and outdated. i do enjoy impressing my friends with my 2005fpw.

my suggestion:

huge gamer? perhaps stay with crt. native resolution and ghosting is a huge issue lcds need to resolve before i can recommend lcds over crts if strictly for gaming. you may find getting widescreen gaming may not be as simple, as even the hacks has their quirks. though more games are receiving more support, not all are. HOWEVER, a lot of people, addicted gamers, have learned to forgive it's ghosting and native resolution problem.

for me though. lcds are better overall. my 2005fpw is sufficient for games. it delivers a fast enough response time for me to forget it's there, at times. i spend more time using the lcd for document, websites, movies, etc... and i find lcds are better than crts for these activities.
