OCZ 450watt Modstream or Antec Neopower? OCZ is $82 shipped the Antec $110 shipped new. OCZ is cooler looking.

OCZ wins hands down on price and looks but how does it perform? I know Antec is known to be reliable. Does anyone have the OCZ Modstream and had it for a while?

Those are the only 2 modular PSU's I know of?

I am also wondering how is the OCZ Modstream. I don't have the cash to get a Neopower but a Modstream looks nice, except it doesn't have dual 12v rails. How is it compared to the Fortron Blue Storm 400w. Thanks.
 
Ither one will serve you well. The OCZ line of PSU's right now are as high quality as any Antec PSU. The OCZ PowerStreams are at the very top in performance. The ModStreams specs are a little lower then the PowerStream model on the 12v rail though so thats something to consider. Its about an 84w difference on the 12v rail between the two 520w models.

Can get the 450 for $82 shipped which is about a $35 difference. Is the extra wattage worth the extra $$$?
 
Dude, go for the Modstream if you want a Modular PSU. I love my OCZ Powerstream 600 and I must say that their products and support have gotten MUCH better since I remembered them from a few years ago...
 
Is the modstream capable of working in future boards ie with SLI and 24 pin mobos setup?

the Modstraem out performed the Neopower for load regulation in Mike Chins tests

however they are rather close and both do exceed spec
the Powerstreams claim to exceed spec in ACRipple as well
while the Antecs do not (was hoping Mike would get an osciliscope from Santa)
its fairly evident that the Modstreams are based off the same Topower P6 series supplies the Powerstreams are so its not a much of a stretch to assume they may exceed spec in ACRipple as well
 
I think I will go with the OCZ. Next question is should I get the 450 or 520watt? Theres a $35 difference.

Will be running a o/c 3000+,6600gt,dual CCFL,4 case fans,1 HDD,2 optical drives,ect. Will the extra 2 amps on the 12v(520watt) and extra 70watts be worth the extra $35?

and factor in 150 watts (12.5A on the +12V) for the maximum a PCI-E vid card may eventually pull

NOTE on PCI-E CURRENT CAPACITY: There was some question about the maximum output capacity for PCI-Express because of the recent changes in the spec by Intel and nVidia. So to avoid confusion, a quick call was placed to Fortron. They confirmed that up to 75W was available on for PCI-e. The latest spec demands as much as 150W.

Well it looks Like I will go with the OCZ Modstream instead of the Fortron 400w Blue Storm, The 450w Modstream that is.

sorry jabronidan I got your PM this morning and was researching an answer when this thread came up, I hadnt finished a full answer, I got sidetracked by the new BlueStorm review at spcr and researching the PCI-E current capacity issues :p

well that and my dogs bullied me into a long walk :p

I think the advantages of an overspec supply for load regulation out weights just the basic compliance of the Blue Storm, even if the Modstream does lacks the split +12V rail ;)

Yeah. Well at first I thought Bluestorm was also better then the Modstream just because of the dual 12v rails but I guess that's not the case. Thanks for the answer. :D
