Trying to decide between the two following boards and I'm stuck. Anyone have experience and or preference between these boards?

M4A89TD PRO (AMD 890FX chipset)
M4N98TD EVO (Nvidia 980a chipset)

I've been an AMD fan for years and always had good luck up until my last system. Asus A8N32 SLI. I have two office computers here vertualy identical and between the two I now have 4 dead motherboards. These things just die far earlier than anything in my past history. The A8N32 used an Nvidia chipset so I think that might be why I'm sceptical on the M4N. The positive is I still like nvidia GPU and have an SLI setup now i'd like to use until budget allows that upgrade, also believe every manuf has a bad line somewhere and I can't even be sure it's nvidia's fault...might be a falw in the Asus design. With the M4A I could only use single Nvidia and when I upgrade i'd be switching over the am ATI/AMD card in the event I want to use Crossfire down the road. There are other strong point of the M4A but nothing making me excited. I guess I'm mostly after reliability and after my A8N32 nightmare I don't want to deal with another problem board. Here's what I'm looking at thus far for a new setup.

M4A89TD PRO or M4N98TD EVO
AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
CORSAIR Professional Series AX750 750W
Windows 7 Pro x64

GIGABYTE GV-R695D5-2GD-B Radeon HD 6950
If I opt for the M4N board I like this card and the 6950 to 6970 Bios tck that's out there.
This is not a gaming rig but my work horse computer. I use a pretty intense 3D cad modelling software...uses OpenGL.
 
I haven't really heard of any problems with the M4N98TD, I'm sure you'll be fine with that. You'll lose SATA6 and USB3.0 over the M4A89TD though. The M4A89TD also has a lot more features, and if you don't mind attempting to do a driver hack, then you can do SLI on the M4A89TD.

Don't get the Phenom II x4 970, just get a 955 and overclock it to 970 level or higher (it'll do that easily).
 
I wasn't to woried about the not getting USB 3.0 & the 6gd.sec SATA with the M4N. I have a 1TB & a 500GB external WD My book and both are USB 2.0 and I'm not interested in upgrading that. It's fast enough and I have backups scheduled and it's done in the background so I could care less how extra long or short it takes. I also read up quite a bit on SATA 6 and that doesn't seem like something were going to see really taking advantage of. I have a VelociRaptor 300GB 10k rpm drive...she's pretty damn quick.
Mainly want reliability. Think I made up my mind last night on the M4A. Decided to say frig it and splurge the extra dough out and get the video card now. 1.1k for total of all those goodies..ouch. There was some decent package deals but every time I worked something out it included stuff I wasn't after or compromised somewhere...ohh ya at newegg. PSU a bit pricey..ahh for that matter so wasn't the memory. Guess you get what you pay for..hope this goes well.
I just received an ebay purchased used socket 939...just to salvage another older computer setup. Damn thing won't post..tried everything..even clear CMOS, simple one at a time procedure...screw it. Need to say good bye to socket 939...it's been a terrible 4 year life with it over here. Never had so much trouble with boards as that series.
 
Good choice with the M4A, the 890FX is a very good chipset. The M4N is getting awfully old.
 
Thanks for the input guys. It's ordered up so I'll let you know how it all goes once it's here.
