Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB 2X1GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory - $35

OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-15 DDR2 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - $75

So if I go with the Corsair with faster timings, I can get 4GB of memory (4x1GB) for $70 total.
If I get the OCZ with slower timings, I can get 4GB of memory (2x2GB) for $75 total.

The Corsair deal is cheaper for the same amount of memory, and the timings are faster, but I was wondering if getting 4x1GB sticks will be worse than getting 2x2GB. I will not be overclocking my memory.

Thanks.

when choosing between two of the biggest players in the industry, i'd go by the cheaper kit.

The OCZ has faster stock timings, so if your not going to overclock, it would be the better choice IMO.

Despite advertising tighter timings, having 4 of the Corsair modules will put extra strain on the memory controller so you might not see the benefits.

I would go with the 2x2GB kit. They are probably capable of running at the timings of the Corsair ones, just change it in the BIOS.

In either case, there are more important things than the memory timings, like checking that your motherboard is actually running the memory at 800MHz and not 667 or something. That would have more of a performance impact.
