haha happy...

im looking for a good one and i was thinking of the nec 20wmgx2
i like the glossy screens cause im not in a overly lit room or near any windows so its perfect for me. have any suggestions?

I bought it and like it. When I first saw the cost I thought it was more than I needed - but as soon as I opened it I was pleasantly surprised. Right away I noticed the power cables bent better than any others I have used (I always try to bend back the folds in cords that have been folded-up a long time and it nevers really worked - until this time). I can only guess it must the copper content. I also expected at least one dead pixel or some suggestion of backlighting and I had none of those. I don't know what's inside monitor but I feel safe assuming components are of good quality without the rampant downbuilding going on. I find more and more products from clothes to electronics that seem to go tits up on me in a year or so. I don't use games but for photos and movies its been exponentially better than the other monitors I first tried.

I think many other makers try to keep the monitors "seeming" to have reasonable cost because a model of theirs is categorically capable of "this or that" spec/function etc but the reality is they get assembled with "iffy" parts. I think the percentage of consumer models that are defective in some is very high. I don't just mean dead pixels either.

A kid on a budget who mostly games is wise to buy a $200 SamGateSonic but if you want nice photos/colors/movies etc and want a monitor that will still work with quality 3 years from now then I think a person needs to spend more than $300. The NEC cost me 550 but I feel like I stole it when I look at photo through clear screen and it seems like looking through a window compared to the milky screens I had (or the soft CRT I had). The first photo I put up on NEC was a Halloween scarecrow in front of my mothers house and it looked like I could have touched it. It was a revelation as I never seen that before (and it was an old photo viewed on other monitors before) and that included Apples.

about that kid on a budget thing well im 14 dont have a job and i own 23 games in all....hehe ironic aint it

but yea i built my own computer and i saved up the money for a 6800gs a case a ps 1 gig of ram windows xp p4 3.0ghz and i used my old hd from my dell...im also planning on buying a new hd...and my mouse and keyboard so im sure i could come up with at least 800

ohhh sweet im glad i have someone who owns the monitors opinion. i do game a lot and ive never owned an lcd before. im currently using a dell trinitron p992 flatscreen..uhhh 20 inches i think it is...but yeah ive been using it for a while and i think its time to make the jump from crt to lcd now.

Ok 14 yr olds named "Naplam" make me nervous. Just kidding.

Here is link to a photo a guy posted here and when I saw it then I knew I was going to get NEC (before that I kept hearing "too glossy" but to me the matte panels were too dirty):

But, as I said, if your mostly looking for monitor to game etc then there are fine monitors for between 2 and 3 hundred beans. I like to watch TV and DVD's on monitor and after seeing these on Dell 2007WFP (the S-PVA one) I knew I was in trouble (the peguins in March Of The Penguins didn't even have eyes on my Dell). There is good list over at Anandtech too (keep in mind more new things seem to be out each day.

There is Widescreen Gaming Forum as well:

A good NEC review thread there was most educational:

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*que heavenly music* that nec looks so sweet and i also want to watch movies and doesnt the nec come with a tv tuner? not that it would be as good as a pci one but i dont need HD or anything...and if it does come with one..how is it?

Yes it has a TV tuner. I only used it once to watch the NY Giants play Washington but it worked well. It picked up all my cable channels. I used the built in speakers at the same time and they were ok for what they are (easy to plug in).The remote works the TV of course but it also handles the menu calibrations so its easy to adjust settings from one media format/type to another. I like to watch TV on monitor but I am looking for card that also records etc. My ATI All-In-Wonder let me watch TV in that transparency mode and I miss it (my card died last Sept and I haven't figured what else to get since the AIW has been dropped from ATI and the last few had some issues)

awesome. thanks for all the help man. now..i have to figure out how to earn 800 bucks..(im also getting a 7800gs so i can run doom 3, fear and far cry at native resolution)
