Which laptop?

at those prices, why not look into Dell when they're having a 750 off sale? you could get their 9300 if you're wanting a 17" (which, by your linking of the Acer, shows you're not against the size & weight) that'd be souped up a bit with a better warranty.

Personally, I'd want a smaller laptop...15.4" is larger than I'd like as it is...

The Inspirons are a bit expensive though. Configured with a 1.86 Pentium M, 1gb DDR, X300 128mb, 3 year warranty, 80gb HD, and XP Pro, adds up to about $2300. Includes a nice free printer though, but somewhat pricey.

EvilMike, I recommend you avoid the Pentium 4 processor ESPECIALLY for a laptop.
Its just way too hot and wasteful with power (electricity, not hertz).

Look into the Pentium M. It will be quiter, cooler, and have a much better battery time.

Acer makes an ok laptop. I personally own their Aspire 1681 with a Pentium M 1.5Ghz processor.

Did you have a budget in mind? If your looking for a laptop that has very good build quality, check out the IBM laptops. IBM just does some things much better then any other company around. For one, the keyboards are just amazing, its like using a normal keyboard for a desktop, whereas others have much cheaper keyboards.

Having looked back, I wish I had gotten the IBM. I'm not sure what school you are going to, but they may have a purchasing program with companies like IBM where you get a pretty good discount.

I just looked at their ThinkPad T series, priced it out for the normal person, and it came to $1749.00US. That's a Pentium M 1.73GHz @ 533FSB, WinXP pro, 1GB DDR2 memory, 60GB hard drive, DVD/CDRW drive, 64mb X300 graphic card, Intel Pro wireless, etc. Just to give you an idea of the price.

~Hope this helps, and keep us posted

Kind of looking to spend sub 1800 or so. $2000 would probably be the max for me.

but they may have a purchasing program with companies like IBM where you get a pretty good discount

They do have some IBM Computers, but all of them are over $2000, mostly 2200 and up. Dell does offer some bundle deals for 1600-1800. One of which is
