Which laptop?

IMO, I don't really like HPs or Comcraps. They have poor build and often come with shitty IGPs. But at least they are cheap. Are you going to carry it around with you? The one you posted is quite heavy. I would get a Centrino over a desktop P4 CPU or try to find a P4-M. Helps battery life. I'm assuming your budget is ~1400 US?
 
If you can get a little more into your budget i'd look at a sager. You can get them at pctorque.com and you can learn about them at notebookforums.com.
 
With all the laptops I have owned I must say that HP and Compaq are not on my list of favs. But then Sony is on my list of what I hate the most lol. Sagers are basic alienware counterparts and I have owned one it was a nice system but lately I have been impressed with the dell 8600 series (upgradable graphics and CPU the 8500 is a P4-M and the 8600 is a P-M) They come with Geforce 4 Ti 4200 (not 420) that are really nice for laptops I have one for sale actually with the copper mod. They also can take all the way up to the newest 9800 from whT i understand but the 9700 for sure so u have a laptop that can take on many different cards no problem. Just check eBay for all ur options. There is one for sale here from UN INspector I am looking at but if u can beat me to it by all means do. its an 8500 series. He was asking 950 with 768 and a 30gig I believe. I got the Ti from him so it has a fx5200 but u can buy a 9600-9700 off eBay or my ti4200 mod from me (60). (This is also a wide screen)

Now if you don't like dell and you might like the Athlon 64 ATI 9600 Rdaeon combo of a laptop thats almost as upgradable and also a wide screen, the eMachines 68XX series. Now yes everyone has the oh eMachines suck well the laptops don't and u will find many people, esp here who agree with me. theres a sticky at the top of this forum with all the info on the whole series. ANyway new they are 1500 from best buy and thats with a A64, 9600ATI and DVDRW. Or u can find one used. there is also one on the forums with a 3 year full replacement even on the battery warrenty through your local best buy and a dvdrw for 1350 I think. Take a look around I have owned this system and I am sorry I gave it up, its a really nice system.

Now the next system I would say I recommend would be a sager or a pro star (again pro star seems to be the same as sager I have yet to get one though, lol only 24 laptops so far have not gotten to all the makers) Now these are found on eBay for a good price, again just watch the sellers look for good 25+ feedback or close to u for local pickup.

If you can be patent I think one of the best places for building your own notebook might be the ibuypower place. It seems a few forum embers have ordered from there on EOC forums and while they can be a little slow just keep calling them, they do let you build a complete A64, P4 or P-M system to the way you want it (they don't have a ton of graphics card options its mainly ATI which I did not like the 9600pro or above. I have yet to see an nVidia but then again I have not gone through all the notebook models. so u might want to check there if you want to buy from a business.

And after all that lol u can ask me to find you a laptop since thats what I seem to do with my free time lol. Anywya hope this helped and good luck with your choice.

It looks like I'll be getting an Acer AS2012WLMi, does anyone know a good store with them in stock?
