Which laptop for HTPC use?

I am looking for a laptop to play movies and connect to my TV. I currently have a CRT with a single RCA input (yellow) but will be getting a LCD/Plasma soon.

I have read that HDMI is the best connection for the flat panel TVs but is it a must have?

Also for connecting to my current TV, S video would probably be the best connection or are their HDMI to RCA adapters.

Would also use this laptop for wireless web.

Would like to spend under $500.

You might be able to get a laptop with a DVI connector. That would yield the best picture quality on an LCD/Plasma behind HDMI. DVI just doesn't carry the sound through the same cable. DVI on laptops is becoming a little bit more common lately.
