Which is the better card for 1440p gaming?

I currently have the Asus 280x DCII card and it runs fine, but one of my friends is selling a EVA 680 4gb classified card for a great price. It also turns out that I'm building a gaming pc for another friend, so I may sell him the 280x in his build if the 680 is a worthwhile upgrade.

Thoughts?

Keep the 280. It's slightly better than a GTX680. For 1440 it might actually be worth it to sell the 280 and move up to a 290 or something conparable. But if not a 280 will be ok.

It'd be a sidegrade / downgrade depending on the game. I'd just keep the 280x.
