Which is the best digital camcorder?

i'd say the second one...but that is just a guess from what i am reading. i dont know too much about them...you make films?

Yes, I am an independent film entroprenuer (sp?)

Im going to have a site up shortly with all my shorts I have made, soon to be on atomfilms.com as well.

Yeah, I'd say the second one looks better. Plus it comes with 2 lenses.

I'd say neither. Get the best mini-dv you can afford. High-8 is not as good of quality. Remember, you have to transfer the footage to you PC so you can edit it right? MINI DV !

But for a good 3ccd mini-dv you are talking 2000.00 not 600.00

Well...

A $1000 High8 camera is better than a $300 MiniDV camera.

Is there such a think as a $300.00 minidv cam? You are right of course. The more you spend the better the quality.

But a 1000.00 mini dv is better than a 1000.00 hi-8

I have a Sony TRV-27 minidv. It has the Carl Zeis lens and such. It is not a GREAT camera, but for general use it is outstanding. Over 1MP CCD on that bad boy so the images are very crisp.

The canon GL1 is a 3ccd mini-dv cam that is usually selling for about 1200.00 on e-bay.

However, if you have the means go for a Canon XL1. 3ccd, changeable lenses, etc. This one is more professional.

I guess my point is that if you are just starting out but plan to do some high quality professional stuff, don't skimp on a hi-8 cam because you'll out grow it fast and realize that you should have bought a mini-dv.
