6600 is faster in most things iirc.. and much more overclockable

Mainly because your videocard is the bottleneck at that point. All the benches you see with C2D pulling fifty more frames per second than an A64 are run at 640x480 with all the graphical effects on low, to put all the stress on the CPU and not on the GPU. In the real world though, you play at resolutions that are high enough that your videocard is the bottleneck.

The C2D isn't too much ahead of the X2. However, penny for penny, the C2D wins.
