Before it gets suggested, I don't want a gtx 560 ti or an HD 68xx card. Please don't crap my.thread with comments about overkill or too much GPU for x resolution. Oh, I don't want to wait for any future cards either.

I can't decided between the HD 6900 series or the gtx 570/580 cards. I will sli or crossfire unless I get an HD 6990. Where my indecision lies is when does more vram become more important than power? For now ill be playing at 1920x1080 until I get a few more monitors. I like to play with all settings to the max with lots of high res texture and line of sight mods. So both are very important and the 6k cards will always have a higher max payable because of vram, but this is more apples to apples.

Stuck between HD 6990 or evga gtx 570 classified.

Since you are playing at 1920x1080, the difference between AMD's 2GB and Nvidia's 1.5GB of vram, is probably a moot point! If you are deciding between the 6990, (2) 6950/6970's and (2) 570's, then I would say it matters which games you play! If the games you play are better coded for the green team, then go Nvidia, and vice versa! IMO, deciding between the 2 graphics companies when gaming is what matters, comes down to the games the user plays

Without anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering applied, the GeForce GTX 590 scores a narrow victory in Metro 2033 at 5760x1080. However, my postulations about available graphics memory seem to be coming true here. Even more so than at 2560x1600, 1.5 GB per card is just not enough to facilitate this resolution at aggressive settings, resulting in a veritable slide show from Nvidia’s newest card. And it’s not that the 6990 is playable. But its 2 GB per GPU is able to cope much better.

Might not be a bad article to read. This might interest you too.
