i ordered a qpack/tforce6100-939 today

i plan to use my 146 opty and oc it to 3ghz @ 1.45v

my current heatsink is a scythe ninja. i do not need this heatsink because my cpu doesnt generate that much heat. obviously it will not fit in the qpack. so whats a good heatsink that will fit?

edit: found a pic

seems like the scythe ninja can fit?

edit: dimensions
big typhoon: 122 x 122 x 103 mm
ninja: 110 x 110 x 150mm

looks like it fits =)

Yeah it fits with some trimming, for those that don't want to cut their case. I use the amd 4 heatpipe heatsink in my microfly, it's a great cooler and you can replace the fan with any 80mm fan you want.

I use the Zalman 7700cu which let's my Opty 148 idle at 28c and load at 45c. Fits great and looks intimidating as hell!!

wow and that fits without any trimming?
Fits like a champ, no trimming needed. However, I had to trim a little off the chipset cooler next to it using a Dremel. I have very little room to spare there, but haven't had a problem (with exception of the little fan inside being too loud, but I simply unplugged it and relied on the airflow from the CPU fan).

very nice Smoove910

does anyone know if i trim that off, the hd rack wont fall? (i plan to put 2 harddrives)

i have a feeling that the ninja will not fit due to harddrive being in the way.

ill have to rotate that rack 90 degrees some how...

You could try installing the hard drives in the cd drive cage somehow. I would go with the zalman or amd 4pipe cooler though.

I think that will be great. Zalman makes great stuff.

FWIW, the de facto standard for quiet qpack CPU coolers for the HTPC crowd is the Zalman 7000, but that's Socket 939 only.
The only other similar one for Socket AM2 currently is the Thermaltake Blue Orb II (reviewed recently by HardOCP) but I haven't been able to find anyone that carries the AM2 version yet.

Thanks for the Silverstone FN82 pointer...neat concept :)

Good luck on this. If you have an Opty 146, you have a low multiplier on the processor. This means you will have to hit 300mhz HTT and above to achieve your 3ghz clock speed. Unfortunately, the Biostar T-Force is not too good at achieving those HTT levels. Mine craps out at 260 ish, but I have an 11x multi on my Opty 148, so it's not too much of a problem.

However, there are other flavors of the T-Force 6100 other than Biostar's option, but just thought I would bring up that point so you don't get too disappointed if you can't reach your goal.

Good Luck!

are you serious? Dillusion said i could reach that goal. See post #498. I better keep my dfi mobo then... the atx mobo into qpack seems like a fun mod! thanks for the heads up.

If this biostar mobo can do 300htt x 10... then i'll be satisfied.

The BIOSTAR T-Force 6100 CAN overclock to 300 HTT. The real question is Will your particular board be able to. I've heard of these boards overclocking to those settings, but just letting you know there are probably more that can't than those that will.
