Hi, I am preparing to purchase the Gigabyte Ga- 7n400 pro 2 motherboard, a n Athlon XP mobile 2500+ along with some artic silver 5 from newegg. I was wondering what the best heatsink fan combo would be for this mb and processor. I was planning on buying the Thermaltake Volcano Extreme 12 for cooling but I have read that it is extremely noisey at high speed. I currently have the volcano 7+ for my xp 1700+. Is the volcano 12 louder than the volcano 7+ at high speed. With my current configuration my cpu temp reported by the bios and sisoftware sandra is around 56 degrees celsius at this time. My case temp is 49.

If your overclocking go with a highend Thermalright or Zalman if your not either leave it stock or get a cheap one from someone else.

zalman 7000cu has been making waves so i picked one up. sexy quiet and works well under stress. looks nice too (a big solid copper blossom)
3.0c @ 3.6 under it

I have the same situation, about to get Barton 2500+ and NF7-S or 8RDA3+ mobo, but I was looking at the Thermalright SLK-800 or 900's. What's wrong with them? Too loud or just expensive?

They're heatsinks. They're not going to be loud. The SP-97 should perform better however.
