I hate this mindset. It's not the hard drive manufacturer's fault that you and your friends didn't back up your stuff. As long as hard drives have moving parts, they will fail, and probably at the worst possible moment. You want to blame it on Hitachi, IBM, WD, Seagate, your mom, whatever, that's your choice, but I say that it's your fault you didn't back up your stuff. As for fixing the reliability issues, yes, they are completely fixed. IBM had identified and fixed the problem even before the division was bought by Hitachi. So think what you want on that one.dwayne001 said:Historically Hitachi was IBM. IBM was bad. Their death star cost the lives f countless MP3 collections and many a dvd-r rip of our beloved Jenna Jamieson was lost. Friends would call me and ask what to do--I'd not be able to help them at all. Word has it that they took Big Blue's technology and turned it around but I'm not convinced.
