OK, I was thinking getting a raptor.

Heres the question though, I was thinking of getting 2x37 WD raptors, and running Raid1. Then, I was reading some posts here, and was thinking of just getting one (the 76GB raptor).

All I want is a faster start up for windows, faster app load time, and quicker game loading.

So what would benefit me better?

1. Staying with my WD 80 SE
2. Getting 2x raptors (37gb)
3. 1x 76gb raptor

Get the single 74 GB Raptor. It will be cheaper than two 36 GB Raptors, and it will offer the same performance. RAID0 would offer absolutely no performance gain for the uses you stated.
 
djnes, Im glad you replied. I was following closely your other knowledgeable posts to similar topics. I guess, my only concern would be possible data corruption from the sata connection.

Also, could you parition that raptor?

FYI, New Egg is having a $25 rebate sale on the 74. Its down to 150 from 175.

That's an awesome price, and it would take two of the 36 GB Raptors to give you the same storage space. You can partition the Raptor exactly the same as you would any PATA drive, so nothing would change there. If you have an Intel based board you won't even need to hit F6 during the XP install to load any special drivers. You can save your existing 80 GB as a secondary storage drive, I currently have a 36 GB Raptor as my C drive, and a 250 GB WD SE drive as my storage drive. As of now, the 74 GB Raptor is the fastest drive available, so you won't be disappointed.

Im going to go ahead and look into getting the 74 raptor. (I have Abit IC-7 mobo, so it shouldnt be a problem)

Ill use that, parition 10-15 gb for XP, then the rest for games, and programs. Then Ill leave my WD 80 for backup, music etc.

Youve never had any issues with data corruption have you?
 
Nope...that's usually reserved only for RAID0. One drive dies, you loose the data from both. I have three SATA drives in three separate computers, and they are all working flawlessly. One board is an IC7. One is the AI& in my sig, and the third is my fiancee's machine that has a DFI 865 board with a Samsung 120 GB drive in it. Absolutely no complaints about SATA.
