Which HD driver should I use?

I am a bit confused about which drivers I should be using. I have 4 HD's attached to my Asus P6T motherboard and have a Revodrive x2 on order. The Revodrive has its own driver but my HD's currently have Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385 drivers for my Win7-64 system. I have also heard about Intel Rapid Storage drivers, version 10.5.1027 that are available. Of course I want the drives to perform at their maximum. By the way, I do not have any of them in raid and I also have the choice of AHCI and IDE mode available in my bios. I would like to know which driver to use and which mode to use and what advantages are there to those choices?

The hard drives in your system do not need special drivers. Your mboard has an intel chipset ICH10R, which you should have the latest drivers for. (available from intel's website).

AHCI is the more advanced, capable option, while IDE is there for legacy hardware configurations (drives that do not support AHCI).

Since you do not mention anything about the 4 HDDs (capacity, speed, - are they all identical drives?), it's hard to answer beyond this.

I assume you intend on installing windows on your revodrive. You might consider a raid 10 setup with the remaining 4 drives (assuming they are identical), once you have your SSD running.

It's also worth mentioning that your chipset supports Intel's Matrix RAID, which basically allows you to create RAID "partitions" from your available disks - for example:

a RAID 0 for your games, a RAID 1 for your important files (from only 2 drives).

The more descriptive you are, and the more clearly you state your goals, the more people can help.

I plan to use the computer mostly for video editing. The hard drives are a collection of drives. That is, I just added #4 which is a WD Black 1 TB. The others are made up of 2 750GB (one Hitachi and one Samsung) and one Samsung 1TB. I also plan to replace the 750GB Hitachi with another 1TB drive, probably another WD Black.

The Revo will have the win7-64 OS plus some program files - like the CS5 video editing programs. I would prefer not to put the others in raid. I do have the latest chipset drivers from Intel, but was wondering if I should upgrade the hard drive drivers from the current Microsoft ones to the Intel Rapid Storage ones.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: There are no HDD drivers. Period. There are only chipset drivers (which can indirectly affect HDD performance, since the chipset in question is responsible for controlling data flow from your SATA ports to the rest of the machine.

I wouldn't suggest RAIDing a collection of dis-similar drives.

If you're going to be editing very large content, however, RAID arrays are practically the only fast way to do so.

Please be patient with me as I am trying to understand this. Here are the three driver packages in question:
#1) Intel X58/ICH10R Chipset (from Intel site for my M/B Chipset)
#2) Microsoft 6.1.7600.16385
#3) Intel Rapid Storage Drivers 10.5.1027

#1 is what used when I first installed Win7-64

In device manager > disk drives > Samsung > Properties > driver, it lists #2
I then open #3 (it's an exe file) and run it. It looks to install the driver. I then go back to device manager and repeat the above and it still shows #2.

Are you saying that #3 is a newer chipset driver and that by running it, I have updated my chipset driver? If so, where can I go that shows what chipset version I am using?
