Ok here we go. I am moving all the computer parts from my uncle's Shuttle case into a new one. All I've had to purchase was an ABIT NF7 S2G(bad mobo?) to go along with their existing Athlon 2500+ Barton. I reformatted their HDD and reinstalled WinXp Pro. It was fine, I installed Sp2, and my cousin told me to install his brand new copy of Chaos Theory as well. So I put it on there and let them take the computer home (this was all at my house). They got home, connected the computer, and then my cousin tried playing Chaos Theory. So it asks for the install key and then must restart. After he restarts, Windows just sits at the gray loading bar at the bottom of the screen at bootup and gives this message: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
I read on the MS site about the problem and how to fix it. So they bring the computer back over to my house so I can run this troubleshoot. It involved going into the Recovery Console by using the WinXp cd. I tried it but it said access was denied to the drive(no administrator password was set, btw), so I decided hell, I didn't do much to their computer anyways, I'll just reformat again. Now it gets bad. While in the process, the system gives some blue screen telling me about some error in a .dll file. I think nothing of it, reboot and try again. Now the computer will not refomat the HDD and just sits at 0%. Also, just trying to boot up is long. It takes up to 3-4minutes for the system to detect the IDE drives.
Any ideas?
