I am getting very confused on which HD to get, I think it has come down to these 2.

The Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache SATA 300 MB/s

I know they are both different sizes, but what I am really looking at is quality, I know the Maxtor has a better GB/$ ratio but I just don't want a bad drive, not saying that Maxtor's are bad it's just what do I need.
 
I've always been a fan of WD drives, and since the performance and price of those drives are so close I would go with the Maxline III since it carries a 5 year warranty. I've RMA'ed drives from the 3 big vendors (WD, Seagate, Maxtor) and they're all about the same.

Maybe find some HDTach results for the two drives to compare?
 
My Maxtors get about 60 MB/s reads and good (I forget exactly, been a while since I tested) latencies. Can't say anything bad about them. I'd tend toward the WD for a boot drive and the Maxtor for a storage drive, but I haven't actually tried the WDs, it's just hearsay.

So I am getting the Maxtor MaXLine III 7L300S0 300GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive, anyone have a preference of where they get their hd's? Newegg I heard sometimes has poor packaging, I have gotten a drive from zipzoomfly and I thought the packaging was pretty good. ZZF is a little more expensive but I would rather not hassle with sending it back and all that hassle over a few bucks.
 
ZZF is where I got my Maxtors. Nice little foam houses for the drives. Very well done IMO.

 
ZZF is worth the extra bucks. Also don't forget that Newegg like's to tack on a few bucks more for their standard three day shipping, while ZZF includes 2 day shipping on everythign except cases, at least last time I checked.
